Give Directly–They give cash to very low income people primarily in Africa. A key idea is that there is very little bureaucracy in between Give Directly and recipients. A second key idea is that recipients know best what they need money for. Details:

• The Rainforest Trust. They support the purchase of land by partners to prevent deforestation. This preserves wildlife habitat and is a potentially critical way to reduce global warming rates.

• The University of Austin. This is a new university, attempting to change the way higher education is done. They intend to focus on open dialog and (I hope) different methodologies for teaching. It is very early on, but I perceive the sclerotic nature of higher ed to be a big problem and I think a reasonable POV is that we have to show that new universities can be built or we will continue to have an uncompetitive environment for, e.g., Wally and Lucy’s education.
